The Beginner's Guide to Microschooling

Getting Started as a Prenda Guide

😳 The Problem

It's no secret the approach we've been taking with K-12 education for the last 100+ years isn't working very well these days. Kids are disengaged, and suffering academically and emotionally. Teacher burnout stats are skyrocketing, and over 50% of parents say they are open to other schooling options.

These problems exist, at least in part, because the way "school" has been set up fails to take into account the basic psychological needs of children, parents, and teachers. Because of this lack of understanding, we've accidentally built an educational ecosystem that negates most things that make humans feel happy, capable, and hopeful. Whoops.

In the traditional approach to "school," we have positioned teachers to act as carpenters, molding and shaping inanimate students; train conductors, keeping everyone on track and on schedule; and managers, who ensure outcomes and direct all aspects of the learning.

While public funding for schooling has been an amazing innovation, and teachers and administrators are typically very well-intentioned, the traditional classroom approach to learning is stressful for teachers and demoralizing for students.

Today, over 30 years of research consistently points to three main things humans need to thrive.

These three priorities are simple and inexpensive, but they directly oppose how "school" is currently set up.

Prenda microschools are designed to meet these three needs for students, guides, and parents.

Let's talk about these needs and how, as a Prenda guide, you can easily create learning environments where everyone can thrive, even if you aren't a professional educator.
